Pat Foltz

It’s hard to imagine what the Malaga Cove library would be without Pat Foltz. For more than a quarter century she has contributed in person and in funds to preserve the beauty and excellence of this branch. Pat has always loved to read and has loved libraries since the age of 14 when she worked as a page during the summer at the Dayton, Ohio, library making 25 cents hour.

Her passionate interest in the Malaga Cove branch stems from the history of the library itself.  She began her support of this branch by creating a quiet study space and small meeting area in the library’s Tower room. She furnished the room with furniture from Ethan Allen and had the tables and chairs refinished to make it a beautiful place to meet and study. She went on to fund the art hanging system and the lighting for the Gallery downstairs. Pat was also a major donor enabling the recent restoration of this historic building.

Additionally, Pat is the go-to person for library parties—having run the auctions for most of the Friends’ galas over the years and provided the food for countless events. She also sponsors the Friends’ Life Member receptions. It’s easy to find Pat; five days a week she’s cleaning and pricing used books for the Malaga Cove Book Sale, just as she has been doing for over 20 years.
