District Trustees, Friends of the Library, Special Events, Visiting Other Libraries
Like several members of our Palos Verdes Library District, when traveling Board of Trustees member Fran Wielin takes time to visit libraries in the towns and cities on their itinerary. When she and her husband Sid toured China in November 2010, one of their library visits included the Shanghai City Public Library.
In this photo, Fran (right) presents a Peninsula Friends of the Library book bag to the librarian (l) while tour guide Ron Birchard looks on.
From one of the library’s upper floor windows, Fran captures the garden of the Shanghai City Library. The Chinese characters spell Confucius and “seeking knowledge.”
Young patrons utilize some of the library’s computers.
Fran said that Shanghai City Library’s technical services area looks a lot like the Peninsula Center’s area.
The mission statement of the library is prominently displayed both in Chinese and English.
The Peninsula Friends of the Library would like to invite all of you who travel to visit a library or two so we can share your photos and comments on this website. It reinforces that though our areas and culture may be different, when it comes to libraries we are more alike than different.
