About PVLD

  • Formed in 1929, PVLD has three lively branches (Peninsula Center, Miraleste and Malaga Cove).
  • The fourth branch is the virtual library — pvld.org.
  • PVLD also provides the Teen Annex, near Peninsula Center.
  • With 45,000+ cardholders, a 675,000+ annual door count, a 900,000+ annual circulation, and 350,000+ annual visitors to pvld.org, our libraries are busy places.
  • Our libraries are also community centers, with 1,400 events a year, with 42,000+ attendees.
  • Volunteers play a major role in the work of PVLD, with more than 200 providing more than 30,000 hours last fiscal year alone.

PVLD Programs

  • Our staff provides 15 story times for over 500 infants and toddlers each week.
  • 3,600+ children participated in the 2009 Summer Reading program.
  • The Teen Annex is visited by nearly 1,000 teens each month.
  • PVLD librarians provide teacher development workshops, information literacy training, and school-based book talks and story times at every school in PVPUSD.
  • The Teen Annex also provides activities for older adults during the school day when not in use by teens.
  • Books by mail reaches homebound readers at nominal cost.
  • PVLD.org visitors download audio and e-books, search databases, look at PV historical photos, get live homework help, chat with reference desk, etc.
  • Books and other library resources are available in 10 foreign languages and Braille.

PVLD Staff

  • The PVLD staff is dedicated, hardworking, creative and just darn friendly. They make our libraries a great place to visit or call, or visit on the Internet.
